Who We Are
South Georgia Bank was chartered in 1987 as South Georgia Federal Savings Bank. The vision of the charter Board of Directors was to provide a financial institution that specialized primarily in home mortgages and consumer lending in Tattnall, Evans and Long Counties. The home office was opened in April, 1987 at its current location on South Veterans Boulevard in Glennville. In 1992, the bank was renovated and enlarged to accommodate the increasing needs of a growing customer base. The bank has undergone two name changes since inception. In 1994, the name changed to South Georgia Federal Savings Bank, FSB and in 1997, the current name, South Georgia Bank, was adopted. In order to more effectively serve an expanding market and customer base, South Georgia Bank changed its regulatory charter in 2001 from a Federal Savings Bank to a Commercial State Bank. This change enabled the Bank to significantly expand its lending capabilities in the areas of commerce and agriculture.
Responding to a growing customer base, South Georgia Bank established a second location in Claxton, Georgia in 1995. A third location in Reidsville, Georgia was established in 2002 followed by a fourth location in Hinesville, Georgia in 2008. These additions have enabled South Georgia Bank to not only expand its geographic market presence but also to better serve its customers.
For three decades, South Georgia Bank has been a market leader in customer service, providing the latest in both technology and product offerings. Our goal is to be more than a bank, striving instead to be a partner in helping our customers get the most from their banking needs. At South Georgia Bank, our mission statement of "offering banking services that exceed the expectations of our customers, shareholders and employees" is more than a slogan. It is indeed a belief that we strive to make a reality each and every day in the lives of our customers and the communities we serve.
